About Miniature Poodle Puppies

SIZE

The average weight and size of a miniature poodle is 10-15 inches and 10-15 pounds respectively with
not much size difference between the males and females. The miniature poodle is a small, yet elegant
athlete with it’s smoothly muscled body proportioned with the same build as it’s standard sized
counterpart. It has a desirable squarely built frame with the length of the body from breastbone to rump
approximating the height of the shoulders. The head is slightly rounded, with a light but definite stop.
Cheekbones and muscles flat with the length of the muzzle long, straight and fine. Ears hang close to the
head, set at or slightly below eye level. The miniature poodle may be small, but does not lack in muscled
energy.

COAT

The Miniature Poodle is known for its curly hypoallergenic coat that can come in a variety of colors such
as white, black, apricot, or a mix depending on their markings. The quality of their furnishings can range
from smooth and wavy to dense and curly. While the poodle is relatively non-shedding and considered a
great choice for people with allergies regular brushing is recommended to keep the soft curly outer coat
tangle-free.

CHARACTER

These affectionate, proud, and intelligent dogs are loyal and eager to please, which makes them an
easily trainable breed. With agility and grace they are known to enjoy a variety of activities. Bred as
hunting dogs poodles are full of energy and have a natural inclination to exercise both their mind and
body.

TEMPERAMENT

Poodles are wonderful companions for the whole family with an abundance of playfulness to share with
children and other family pets. This breed is dedicated to it’s family pack and though it has moderate
protective inclinations it is prone to be quite vocal. Poodles are very people-oriented and will need
regular exercise to keep bad behaviors developed out of boredom from becoming the norm.

CARE

Poodles are considered a long hair breed though you may not think so as most are kept trimmed since
their outer coat is prone to tangles and matting. If you don’t plan on keeping them to a short trim, daily
brushing is recommended to keep the tangles at bay. They have a thick undercoat that can be hard to
properly wash with insufficient water pressure, so regular appointments with a professional groomer
every four to six weeks is recommended. This will also insure that proper nail trims will be given.
Miniature Poodles average a longer lifespan of 10-18 years and is considered a senior dog by it’s 8 th year.
This size of the breed is more prone to Legg-Calve-Perthes and luxating patellas.

TRAINING

Like all Poodles the miniatures are skilled and amazingly smart with an eagerness to impress. For best
results keep training positive, fun and consistent. Poodles are quick learners and very adaptable, finding
ways to challenge this breed will keep them from becoming bored. They are perfect for agility training,
retrieving, and are known to love the water. Starting training early is always encouraged and once all the
regular expectations of training have been met this natural athlete can exceed your expectations. Forget
any preconceived notions you may have had about the breed- they will rise to any training challenge you
can throw at them!

ACTIVITY

The Miniature Poodle is a happy and energetic breed and does best with regular walks and playtime.
With their high energy level it is best to set aside an hour of positive recreation daily. Poodles are
motivated by a wide range of activities and enjoy keeping busy. Water retrieving can be a great way to
exercise both their body and mind. They also enjoy going for jogs or long walks, which is a great way to
bond with their humans.
